Why you need to ask questions to triumph

In our personal and business lives we need to realise the importance to ask questions. Questioning is a habit that the self-employed must develop. It is imperative for each self-employed business person to understand why developing this questioning habit is so important.

It is not only about asking the right questions of the right people, but also of questioning yourself all the time to ensure you are on a journey to achieving your goals.

The habit to ask questions

Why you need to ask questions to triumph

It is thus the habit to ask questions of others and continuously questioning yourself that is vitally important.

Some of the reasons why we must have this habit of questioning others are because:

  • It is one of the best ways to acquire knowledge.
  • It can stimulate yourself and other people to think and generate new and better ideas.
  • It is a very powerful tool to solve problems by giving us a different perspective.
  • It helps you to clarify your ideas and thinking.
  • It is a good way of connecting and engaging with other people and starting a conversation.

The most important reason for developing a questioning habit is because it is the only way in which we can change our mindset. This will leads towards a habit of accepting everything in life and in ourselves. The result will be stagnation as a person and in business. Questioning is thus the first step in a series of actions leading to self-discovery, self-improvement and business mastery.

By not asking questions with a critical mindset we will accept everything in life for granted. So no improvement, development or innovation will take place.

Anthony Robbins said: “Quality questions create a quality life. Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers”.

This is such a vital principle.

The habit to ask questions daily

Why you need to ask questions to triumph

It is important to get into a habit to ask yourself daily questions.   This will assure continuous self-analysis, self-development and business improvement. There are many questions one can ask daily. I believe in starting small with the most important ones and then expanding later after the habit has been developed. My personal choice to start with will be the following two questions:

  • What have I experienced today that made me grateful?

Think about what somebody has said?  What have you seen?

With these questions you will become aware of many things that one can be grateful for, but may have passed unnoticed.

Becoming aware of those “things” in life that make you grateful is not only important, but is a vital step to develop a positive mindset. And with a positive mindset we will create hope for the future. Without these, a business person will not be able to develop a sustainable business.

  • Which of my activities today contributed toward reaching my goals in life?

Whatever your goals may be, you must work towards achieving them every day. The better you can define your goals, the more progress you will be able to make to achieve them.

It is important to develop a habit to ask questions of yourself and of others.

I agree with this Chinese proverb: “He who asks a question is a fool for five minutes; he who does not ask a question remains a fool forever”

“Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers.”  Voltaire
