Many people dream of success and try to be successful, but few people actually achieve it. Why?

There is no easy answer to this question.

We first need to know what success means to us, personally. Success does not mean the same to everyone.  Our definitions or view or perception of success are different.

The definition of success, to me, was best described by the famous American basketball coach, John Wooden, who said:  “Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.”   I want to add the words – “every day”!

This means that when you feel satisfied that you have done your best today, to be the best you can be with your specific talents, skills or ability, you are already successful, or on your journey to achieve success.

Success is not just a once-off happening – it is a journey that each of us must travel every day.

My success does not depend on anybody else. My success depends on how I travel my journey every day.

Your success does not depend on what other people are doing or saying. Your success depends on you, yourself, making the best of your own abilities, living your own life and doing your best every day.

In this series we will discuss this journey of success.

We will have practical lessons from other people who will share their journeys with us. You will be able to learn from practical experiences.

Our challenge will be to learn and apply these lessons in our own lives.

One of the most important secrets to Warren Buffett’s success is that he has not stopped learning and developing himself. Buffett is a much better investor today than he was when he started his business. The Warren Buffet lessons explained by Charlie Munger:

“Warren Buffett has become one hell of a lot better investor since the day I met him, and so have I. If we had been frozen at any given stage, with the knowledge we had, the record would have been much worse than it is. So the game is to keep learning, and I don’t think people are going to keep learning who don’t like the learning process”.

Success something personal: success is not the same for everybody, the only meaningful and everlasting definition of success is your own view of success. It should be your own definition, and not the definition of others.

There are various definitions for the meaning of success. Everybody tends to have their own.

In the eye of the public many people seem to be successful because they have material things or they are good looking or have an easy going personality or they are good at sport or have a craft talent or whatever it may be that other people have reason to envying them.

The real question is do those people consider themselves as being successful? If a person has lots of money or they are a famous sport star they will be considered as being successful, but if they don’t enjoy the lifestyle or are not happy are they really successful?

Real success in life is more about something from within than what others see in you.

That is the reason why self-employment is about your own self. Learn to know yourself. Gain maximum self-knowledge. That must be your guide to determine the self-employment opportunity you want to explore.

Define what is success to you and not success in the eyes of others, because true success is something personal.

On this platform that will be the guiding line.
